Afscheid van Coach Mario
With the Play Downs of handball season 2023 approaching, handbalclub Don Bosco Gent has decided to end the collaboration with head coach Women 1 and Men 1 Mário César Navarro. We would like to take a moment here to thank Mario for the tactical insights, professional analyses and unique perspective he was able to instill in our players. There is and remains a lot of belief in his abilities as a coach and we would like to thank him immensely for his commitment, long hours and willingness to lead not one, but two First Division teams. Despite the imparted handball insight, the desired result was not achieved and we believe that a link was missing to get the full potential out of our two First Division teams. The decision is therefore independent of his abilities as a coach and with the future of the club in mind, we want to look for the right match for both our first teams. This applies to both the Men’s 1 and Women’s 1. The role of head coach Men’s 1 will be taken over by Robin Mathijs. The already well-known and experienced Robin has been around for many years in Belgian handball. The board is confident that he will put his shoulders to the wheel and maximize the latent potential in our Men’s 1. We therefore wish him every success in this assignment. The Women 1 will be coached and trained until the end of this season by Heidi Buysse with support from Peter Beeckman. Heidi is also held in high esteem by all and we also wish her enormous success.

Met het naderen van de Play Downs van handbalseizoen 2023 heeft handbalclub Don Bosco Gent besloten de samenwerking met hoofdcoach Dames 1 en Heren 1 Mário César Navarro stop te zetten. We willen hier even de tijd nemen om Mario te bedanken voor de tactische inzichten, professionele analyses en het unieke perspectief die hij onze spelers kon bijbrengen. Er is en blijft veel geloof in zijn capaciteiten als coach en we willen hem dan ook enorm bedanken voor zijn inzet, de vele uren en de wil om niet één, maar twee Eerste Nationale ploegen te leiden. Ondanks het bijgebrachte handbalinzicht, werd het gewenste resultaat niet behaald en zijn wij in de veronderstelling dat er een schakel ontbrak om het volledige potentieel uit onze twee eersteklassers te halen. De beslissing staat dan ook los van zijn capaciteiten als coach en met het oog op de toekomst van de club willen we zoeken naar de juiste match voor onze beide eerste ploegen. Dit geldt voor zowel de Heren 1, als de Dames 1. De rol van hoofdcoach Heren 1 zal worden overgenomen door Robin Mathijs. De reeds bekende en ervaren Robin draait al vele jaren mee in het Belgische handbal. Het bestuur heeft er alle vertrouwen in dat hij zijn schouders onder dit project zal zetten en het sluimerende potentieel in onze Heren 1 maximaal zal benutten. We wensen hem dan ook graag veel succes in deze opdracht. De Dames 1 worden tot het einde van dit seizoen gecoacht en getraind door Heidi Buysse met ondersteuning van Peter Beeckman. Ook Heidi wordt bij ieder hoog in het vaandel gedragen en we wensen ook haar enorm veel succes toe.
